The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has announced its readiness to cooperate with the State of Gombe and to make available to national and international energy organizations every opportunity to ensure that State Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya carries out his energy policy initiatives.

The declaration was made by the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Professor Eli Jidere Bala, during a meeting with the Governor at the Gombe State Governor's Lodge in Abuja on Friday.

He noted that the meeting was intended to foster a robust partnership between the Gombe State Government and the Nigerian Energy Commission with a view to updating the governor's initiative to make the state the northeastern energy hub, both in terms of traditional energy sources and optimizing the use of the Dadin-Kowa hydropower plant, as well as the deployment of other renewable energy variable

After the meeting, the ECN Director-General told newsmen that Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya had shown a rare desire and determination to make Gombe State the northeastern energy hub.

He also said that
“having realised the importance of energy to the socio-economic development of any society, the Gombe State Governor has reiterated the need for a sound partnership between the Energy Commission of Nigeria and the Gombe State Government”.

To this end, Professor Bala said his
“The disposition of the governor towards making Gombe the energy hub of the northeast is very positive.

“He wants the best for Gombe and he needs external support and collaboration with other agencies both at the federal and international levels, and we are ready to provide such”.

He added that the Gombe State Governor's visit has inspired him to play his role as the energy commission's chief executive and to continue supporting Gombe State's growth and development.

In order to address the energy needs of some institutions, including the Federal University of Kashere, Gombe State University and the Federal Polytechnic Bajoga, where solar street lights were built to boost the security of the campuses, Professor Bala said earlier that the commission had interfered.

The Director-General of the ECN claimed that his Commission would stop at nothing with the encouragement he received from Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, to ensure that Gombe State continues to benefit from its projects.

“We need to support His Excellency in his laudable programmes.

“In my discussion with him, I have seen a man who has a lot to give to Gombe state and with a burning desire to make the state great”.
