The Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) on Wednesday issued the Federal Government an ultimatum of 14 days to reverse the rise in the pump price of the tariff for petrol and electricity or face national civil unrest.

At the end of their Central Working Committee meeting in Abuja the union issued the ultimatum.

The President of the NLC, Ayuba Wabba, who read the communiqué published at the end of the meeting, said the body would mobilize its members nationwide to protest at the expiry of the September 28 ultimatum.

At the beginning of this month, the Petroleum Product Pricing and Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) raised pump prices for petrol from N151 per litre to N162.

The National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) also declared the decommissioning of the new tariff for electricity from September 1.

With organized labour and civil society groups pressuring the federal government to reverse the decision or face civil unrest, the development sparked outrage in the world.
