States Can Participate In Mining Says Federal Government

Samson Uche Oga, Minister of State for Steel and Solid Minerals Production, says that the state government can also participate through the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) in mining mineral deposits in their state.

In Sokoto, the minister said this when he made a courtesy call to Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal.

He notes that while the solid mineral is under the state government's exclusive legislative list, it can take advantage of the SPV by forming a company to engage in the mining of the deposit of mineral resources in their territory.

Nigeria is endowed with enormous mineral wealth, according to him, which should not be taken away by criminal elements operating at the various mine sites.

Sokoto state has a large deposit of limestone, gypsum, kaolin, and a recently sizable volume of hydrocarbon deposit.
