2027 Election: Sanwo-Olu Urges Massive APC Turnout at LG Poll
2027 election talks are already taking center stage in Lagos as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu passionately called on residents of Ibeju-Lekki to rise for a cause bigger than local politics. He wants them to use the upcoming local government elections to show strong support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and help secure a smooth path to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
Sanwo-Olu made this heartfelt call during a symbolic visit to Ibeju-Lekki, where he commissioned a brand-new local government secretariat complex, a legislative building, and a 400-meter paved road. He also launched the groundbreaking of a new housing scheme right at the heart of the community.
But even as the crowd admired the fresh paint, the new buildings, and the signs of development, the governor’s message cut through the celebration with political urgency.
“The local government election is coming, it’s just one month away,” Sanwo-Olu said. “I want you to use the election to prove your worth so that by 2027, it will be a smooth sail for Mr. President.”
To the people gathered, this wasn’t just politics. It was personal. Many of them had lived through the trauma of seeing their council secretariat reduced to ashes during the 2020 #EndSARS protests. Their streets bore the memory of destruction. But now, they were being offered something new—something solid to believe in.
Sanwo-Olu reminded the people that his administration’s work is centered on jobs, growth, and dignity. These projects, he said, are part of a bigger plan to uplift communities like Ibeju-Lekki.
“You know that everything we are doing fosters around creation of jobs, increase in internal revenue of the local government,” he said. “And we believe it will promote orderly rural development which eventually will preserve the dignity and well-being of the community.”
At the heart of this transformation stands the newly rebuilt council complex. But it wasn’t just built—it was reborn. Hon. Abdullahi Olowa, the council chairman, took the moment to reflect on the painful journey.
“When we assumed office in mid-2021, we inherited the urgent task of building a new and modern council secretariat,” he recalled. “Following the unfortunate tragedy that befell our local government a year earlier in 2020 when EndSARS vandals burnt down the existing structures within the secretariat.”
Olowa’s voice carried the weight of the past and the hope of the present. He shared how his team didn’t just restore buildings—they raised them to world-class standards.
“Our administration took up the responsibility of restoring the local government’s machinery of governance from the scratch. Today, by the grace of God, we have not only rebuilt but have also elevated these structures into modern, world-class facilities,” Olowa said.
The pride in his voice was shared by the crowd, many of whom nodded in agreement, some even clapping mid-speech.
What stood out most was the shared belief that the local government poll isn’t just another election—it’s a chance to shape the future. For Sanwo-Olu, it’s a test of readiness for the 2027 election. For the people, it’s a step away from destruction and a leap toward dignity.
As children played near the shiny new council building and women walked home with fresh produce from the roadside stalls, a quiet but powerful energy filled the air. The new buildings weren’t just government projects. They were proof of survival. Proof that Ibeju-Lekki had not been forgotten.
And now, Governor Sanwo-Olu has thrown down a challenge—to back the APC at the local level and send a strong message ahead of the 2027 election.
The residents have seen what rebuilding looks like. Now, the question is whether they’ll respond with the votes that could help shape who leads Nigeria next.
