50% of Americans Reject Trump’s Tariff Plan on China and Mexico, Poll Shows
A recent Ipsos poll, conducted for the New York Times, reveals that half of U.S. voters oppose President-elect Donald Trump’s plan to increase tariffs on imports from China and Mexico.
The survey, carried out from January 2 to 10, found that 50% of respondents disagreed with the proposed tariffs, while 46% supported them.
Trump has threatened to impose 25% tariffs on Mexican goods and 10% on Chinese imports.
Experts warn that these measures could harm key U.S. industries and disrupt global trade.
Despite the opposition, the poll showed that 81% of respondents believe Trump will follow through with his tariff plan.
Mexican Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard expressed concerns on Friday, warning that targeting both Mexico and China could negatively affect the entire industrial sector.
