Abia APGA members, supporters set to join NRM
Stakeholders and forum of supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia state have disclosed that they are dumping the party for National Rescue Mission (NRM).
The stakeholders hinged their move to lack of internal democracy and cohesion in APGA, adding that the party had derailed it’s ideologies in which it was founded by Late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, and other democrats and progressive-minded Nigerians.
Spokesmen of the Abia APGA members, Mazi Chinedu Emeruwa and Comrade Nzomuche Chiamaka, made this disclosure in a joint communique issued shortly an enlarged meeting of the party members held on Thursday in Aba.
The stakeholders maintained that APGA had been hijacked and traded by those whom the party helped to clinch political leadership positions in the country, insisting that they would not continue to be members of APGA as activities of current national leadership of the party negates basic democratic principles.
They expressed regret on the exit of former APGA national chairman, Chief Edozie Njoku, and further described the Ezeokenwa-led leadership of the party as a misnormer, unideologically installed by enemies of democracy to carry out biddings of the ruling government in the detriment of lovers of true democracy in Nigeria.
“This unpopular leadership styles being displayed in the state and national levels have dwindled the electoral prospects of APGA, as party leaders and teeming members across Abia, southeast, and Nigeria at large, are leaving the once touted progressive party to another platforms in advancing their genuine political ambitions, and courses for enthronement of democratic governance in all levels of leaderships in our various wards, local government areas, states, and the country as a whole.
“And as far as we concerned, Ezeokenwa’s national leadership cannot lead APGA to victory in future electoral competitions because it lacks ability, needed capacity,
and the popularity. And leadership incapabilities of these people at the party’s affairs in national has already murdered the party’s quests and efforts to produce a President for Nigeria, and increase number of State governors, senators, member’s of house of representatives, and state houses of Assemblies in future elections by INEC.
While adducing the rationale behind their respective moves to a new the stakeholders noted that National Rescue Mission is rooted on internal democracy and has continued pivotal roles towards deepening the current democracy in Nigeria by ensuring every public office-holders discharge their respective obligations to engender economic and infrastructural development in federating states, and the country at large.
According to the APGA members, “It’s undisputable fact that NRM believes in internal party democracy unlike other political parties that do not stick to their rules, especially in election of national leadership, and party primaries for general elections being conducted across the federation by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“We, foundation members and core followers of APGA in Abia state numbering in thousands are at our various local electoral wards in seventeen (17) Local Government Area of Abia State to formally register as bonafide members of National Rescue Mission in our local wards, and equally familiarize with leaders and major stakeholders of NRM at local government and state levels.
“Apart from us, NRM will welcome more members from APGA, joining its fold in Abia, and southeast zone as a whole. And we are pitching tents with National Rescue Mission to continue our individual roles in demanding good governance from those entrusted mandates by the people. Because, we believe those in power must do the needful and carry out their constitutional responsibilities for the good of Nigerian masses who are yearning for true democracy in all leadership stratas in our dear country.
“And NRM has impactful policy thrusts which formed part of its ideological and developmental manifestos, tilted at solving multifaceted problems impeding the efforts of Nigeria in attaining economic greatness towards enhancing the welfare of her citizens”,the Abia stakeholders stated.
They reaffirmed their implicit confidence in leadership capacity of the new national chairman of National Rescue Mission, Chief Edozie Njoku and described him as a true democrat who always stood for good governance and speaks truths to powers that be in the nation’s political terrains.
“Chief Njoku has unrelentlessly demonstrate capacities in positions he found himself in midst of sheganigans of the political class to tuncate the efforts of well-meaning and patriotic Nigeria citizens in deepening internal democracy in administration of party affairs, and the country’s electoral system.
“And I must say this leadership quality of Chief Edozie Njoku formed main reasons among others we are aligning with this great party, in order to rescue Nigerian people from clutches of bad governance, economic stagnation, insecurity, poverty, and other fundamental challenges facing the nation”.
