Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has officially approved the nomination of Abimbola Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo Town, bringing an end to the prolonged legal disputes following the death of the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III.
The approval was announced in a statement on Friday by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ademola Ojo, who confirmed that the governor’s decision followed thorough consultations and divination by the Oyomesi, a council of prominent chiefs and kingmakers in the Oyo Kingdom.
“The announcement has ended all the socio-legal bickering that has ensued since the demise of the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, who died on April 22, 2022,” the statement noted.
Governor Makinde’s approval has been widely celebrated as it marks a new chapter for the historic Kingdom of Oyo. The statement urged all citizens of Oyo State to join the government in celebrating this momentous occasion and offer their support to the new Alaafin.
The commissioner also expressed hope that Mr. Owoade’s reign would bring peace, prosperity, and unity to Oyo, a kingdom rich in history and cultural significance.
Abimbola Owoade, who was born 48 years ago to the royal family of Owoade-Agunloye in Oyo Town, is a Nigerian and Canadian entrepreneur, philanthropist, and the president of 100279 Manitoba Limited, a real estate investment and financial services business based in Manitoba, Canada.
Mr. Owoade’s nomination as the new Alaafin represents both a return to tradition and the infusion of modern leadership, as he steps into a role that will continue to shape the future of Oyo.
As the people of Oyo rally behind their new monarch, all eyes are on the promising future that lies ahead under his leadership.
