ACEN Urges Engineers to Lead in Infrastructure Project Delivery
The Association for Consulting Engineering in Nigeria (ACEN) has called on engineers to take the lead in infrastructure projects to maintain their competitive edge.
This appeal was made by ACEN’s managing director, Olufunmilayo Kadri, in a communiqué released on Saturday.
Kadri emphasized the importance of integrating climate change considerations into engineering designs.
He highlighted the need for adopting green building technologies, incorporating renewable energy, and prioritizing environmental sustainability.
“Engineering designs must account for the effects of climate change,” Kadri stated, underscoring the need for a comprehensive approach to infrastructure development.
He recommended a life-cycle approach in planning infrastructure projects, ensuring that design, construction, and operational stages are optimally conceived and implemented at the lowest possible costs.
Kadri also stressed the importance of digital advancements, such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the development of Smart Cities, in modern infrastructure development.
Kadri called for a multi-disciplinary and multi-dimensional approach to engineering, advocating for collaboration across various fields.
This, he noted, would enhance project outcomes by improving quality, efficiency, and sustainability in infrastructure projects.
He concluded by emphasizing that cross-disciplinary collaboration fosters innovation and creativity, thereby enhancing adaptive capacity in engineering practices.
