Adamawa Corpers Celebrate 100% Pay Raise with ₦20,000 Boost

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Finitiri has doubled the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state. Starting December 2024, corps members will receive₦20,000 monthly, up from ₦10,000.

This remarkable decision relieves thousands of young graduates navigating the challenges of their service year. The increase aims to ease financial burdens, enabling corps members to focus on their assignments without worrying about basic living expenses.

Governor Finitiri emphasised the state’s dedication to the welfare of NYSC members during a recent announcement. “We recognise the sacrifices you make and the vital role you play in Adamawa’s development,” he stated.

This isn’t the first time the governor has prioritised the needs of corps members. In 2023, he introduced the initial ₦10,000 allowance as a cushion against the rising cost of living caused by fuel subsidy removal.

The latest increment underscores his administration’s ongoing commitment to youth empowerment and welfare. For corps members like Aisha Bello, the new allowance is a game-changer. “This increase means we can now cover more of our expenses without always relying on family,” she shared.

Across Adamawa State, corps members contribute significantly to sectors such as education, health, and community development. The enhanced allowance recognises these efforts and is expected to motivate better service delivery.

For some, the increase also holds symbolic importance. John Okoro, serving in Yola, noted, “It’s not just about the money; it’s about feeling valued by the government for our work.”

Economic analysts have praised the decision as a positive step toward addressing the financial struggles of youth. They believe the move could inspire other states to follow suit, creating a ripple effect nationwide.

Governor Finitiri’s track record of youth-focused initiatives has earned him widespread admiration. The allowance increment is only one among several measures aimed at improving the quality of life in Adamawa.

As December approaches, corps members eagerly await their first ₦20,000 payment, a timely boost that aligns with the festive season. The announcement has already sparked discussions on social media, with hashtags like #AdamawaForYouth and #NYSCAllowance trending.

In addition to financial relief, the increased allowance is expected to impact local economies positively. Corps members often spend their stipends on essentials and services within their host communities, boosting small businesses and local trade.

Governor Finitiri’s gesture sends a clear message: Adamawa State values its youth and recognises its role in shaping a better future.
