Adamawa Enhances Taxpayer Services with New Grievance Redress Mechanism
In line with Adamawa Executive Order No. 5 of 2023, the state has introduced a new Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) for trade-related issues.
The initiative aims to provide a fair and transparent environment for taxpayers across the state’s 21 LGAs.
Hammanadama Njabari, the State Chairman of the Board of Internal Revenue (BIR), has received office furniture and ICT equipment to support the GRM’s implementation.
This electronic system allows taxpayers to submit complaints online and have them addressed promptly.
World Bank-Supported Project Aims to Simplify Business Processes
The project, funded by the World Bank, is part of the State Action on Enabling Business Reform Syber Programme.
Dr. Bello Abubakar Song, the State Focal Person, highlighted that the program targets eight key areas, including land reforms, fibre optics, and infrastructure development.
Other focus areas include transparency in fees, interstate trade, and simplified tax processes.
“Part of the program involves creating an online Grievance Redress System where taxpayers can lodge complaints and have them addressed efficiently,” Song explained.
The newly provided equipment includes 21 desktops, 21 printers, 21 routers for internet connectivity, and office furniture.
State Revenue Board Ready for Implementation
Receiving the equipment, Njabari praised Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for approving the procurement. He committed to using the resources effectively to enhance revenue generation and improve the business environment.
“The State Revenue Board is prepared and has already deployed staff to manage the GRM across all 21 LGAs,” Njabari said.
He noted that the board will establish a panel comprising members from the board, commerce, trade, and the judiciary to oversee the GRM’s operation.
Online Platform Facilitates Efficient Complaint Handling
Dr. Hammajam Ahmed Adamu, Special Adviser on ICT to Governor Fintiri, described the GRM as an online platform where users can create tickets to lodge complaints.
These tickets are routed to panel members across the LGAs, who receive them instantly.
“This platform allows taxpayers to report issues without needing to appear in person. Our team is equipped to address these complaints promptly,” Adamu said.
The board has also placed billboards and posters to guide users on how to navigate the platform, with detailed instructions available online.
This new system is expected to streamline grievance handling and enhance taxpayer satisfaction in Adamawa State.
