The NUJ Adamawa State Council has formally congratulated newly inaugurated Information Commissioner Barrister Leader Leneke, pledging cooperation for stronger government-media relations and credible information dissemination across Adamawa State.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists Adamawa State Council has formally congratulated Barrister Leader Leneke on his inauguration as Commissioner for Information and Strategy, describing the appointment as a deserving recognition of his experience, dedication, and commitment to public service.

In a press statement signed by Council Chairman Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim and Secretary Comrade Kissinger Bukar, the NUJ expressed optimism that Leneke’s leadership of the ministry would produce measurable progress in three areas the union identified as priorities: strengthening government-media relations, promoting transparency, and enhancing the effective dissemination of government policies and programmes to the people of Adamawa State.

The statement commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for what it described as his continued commitment to appointing competent and capable individuals into strategic positions for the state’s overall development, framing the Leneke appointment within a broader pattern of purposeful executive decision-making.

The NUJ’s engagement with the new commissioner’s appointment carries particular institutional significance. The Ministry of Information and Strategy is the primary interface between the state government’s communications architecture and the media organisations that the NUJ represents. A commissioner who arrives in that role with the formal goodwill of the journalists’ union, and a union that has publicly pledged support and cooperation, begins their working relationship from a foundation of stated mutual interest rather than the adversarial positioning that sometimes characterises government-media dynamics.

The union pledged its continued support and cooperation in fostering a robust partnership that will advance professionalism in journalism and ensure the dissemination of credible information in the public interest, framing its relationship with the new commissioner as an active collaboration rather than merely a monitoring function.

Barrister Leader Leneke was confirmed by the Adamawa State House of Assembly earlier this week following his nomination from Demsa Local Government Area, and was assigned to Information and Strategy by Governor Fintiri following the resignation of the previous commissioner, James Iliya, who left the cabinet to pursue a legislative candidacy ahead of the 2027 elections.

The NUJ closed its statement with a prayer for God’s guidance, wisdom, and success as the commissioner assumes responsibility for one of the administration’s most publicly visible portfolios in its final lap.
