Adamawa State Boosts Livestock Sector with 23,000 Farmers Getting Key Inputs
The Adamawa State Government has distributed crucial farming inputs and machinery to over 23,000 livestock farmers, marking a significant effort to boost the state’s livestock sector.
This initiative aims to enhance productivity in one of the state’s key revenue-generating industries.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri led the official launch of the project in Yola, where he emphasized the state’s commitment to transforming the livestock industry.
His administration seeks to create jobs and encourage peaceful coexistence between herders and farmers.
The project aligns with Fintiri’s vision for pastoralist development. The distributed items included crushing machines, chopper machines, mineral licks, de-wormers, molasses, milking cans, and other essential tools for livestock farmers.
Dr. Alfa Sacondee, the State Coordinator of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), stressed that the Fintiri administration is revolutionizing the sector.
The project has already created numerous job opportunities for local youth.
Tijanni Atiku, the Commissioner for Livestock and Aquaculture Development, highlighted the administration’s key contributions to the sector.
His department has collaborated with the World Bank to implement the program, ensuring that the state remains at the forefront of livestock development.
National Coordinator of L-PRES, Sanusi Abubakar, commended Adamawa State for leading among the 20 states participating in the livestock development projects.
The state’s proactive approach has set a standard for the others to follow.
In his remarks, Chief of Staff Dr. Edgar Amos, who represented Governor Fintiri, reaffirmed the government’s unwavering support for L-PRES.
He urged both farmers and herders to continue fostering peaceful coexistence in the state, a central pillar of the administration’s vision for agricultural growth.
Traditional rulers, pastoralists, and other key stakeholders expressed their deep appreciation for the project.
The Fulani pastoralist leaders honored Dr. Alfa Sacondee with cultural decorations in recognition of his efforts in advancing livestock development in Adamawa.
The L-PRES program, which is set to run for six years, has already completed more than 100 projects in the state.
The initiative’s long-term goal is to improve livestock productivity, resilience, and commercialization while addressing the sector’s challenges across Nigeria.
As the state continues to advance its livestock industry, the collaborative efforts between the government, international organizations, and local communities are poised to bring lasting positive change to Adamawa’s agricultural landscape.
