Adamawa State Government Reaffirms Support for NYSC Scheme with New State Coordinator
The Adamawa State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme. The Chief of Staff conveyed this reassurance to the Governor, Dr Edgar Amos, on Sunday during a visit by the new NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Ateli Samson, and his predecessor, Mal-Muhammed Lawan Ahmed, at the Government House in Dougirei, Jimeta-Yola.
Dr Edgar Amos Sunday welcomed Mr Samson and congratulated him on his new appointment, emphasising the significance of the NYSC scheme in national development. He highlighted the essential roles corps members play in education, healthcare, rural infrastructure, and agriculture, asserting that the state government is committed to supporting the scheme fully. “We owe it a responsibility to support the scheme, and we will continue to give all the necessary assistance it deserves,” he stated.
Dr. Edgar also praised Mal. Lawan Ahmed for his impactful tenure as the State Coordinator and the strong working relationship he fostered with the State Government. He extended congratulations to Mal. Lawan on his new posting to Zamfara and wished him continued success in his new role.
In response, Mal. Lawan Ahmed expressed gratitude for the support he received during his time in Adamawa and hoped that his successor would enjoy even greater backing.
Mr. Ateli Samson, the new State Coordinator, thanked Dr. Edgar and the State Government for the warm welcome and their positive attitude towards the NYSC. He appealed for continued support, specifically requesting the maintenance of the N10,000 monthly allowance for corps members and the provision of feeding augmentation during orientation course periods. He also emphasised the importance of beginning work on existing support programmes to enhance further the effectiveness of the NYSC scheme in the state.
