Among the candidates shortlisted for the Office of Chief Of Staff to the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Hon. Rev. Habila M Istifanus stands tall with his shoulders above all and is the right person to occupy that office from Ganye Local Government Area if the Governor wants to capture the attention of the people of Ganye Chiefdom.
Anything short of this, will be a minus to the PDP in terms of support-base and consolidation on its successes in the 2019 Governorship election especially in Ganye Chiefdom, if not Adamawa South Senatorial District. Unlike other candidates vying for the same office, Rev Habila has his supporters spread across Adamawa South Senatorial District, cutting across ethnic band religious divides and is a man to beat in any position he will be aspiring for in the zone.
Appointing Habila as the Chief of Staff to the Governor, the PDP will not only consolidate its grip on those supporters of Rev Habila but will also witness massive decamping of Habila’s supporters from other political parties including the ruling APC. Many are waiting to see the fate of Habila under the Fintiri’s administration and would soon throw in the towel to join him.
The mistake the Governor and the PDP will make is to turn deaf ears to the already popular call from the stakeholders for them to settle for Rev. Habila and opt for some else who cannot add any development to the party even within his Local Government Area let alone Ganye Chiefdom and by extension, Adamawa South Senatorial District.
Unlike the other interesyed candidates for the Office, Hon. Rev. Habila Istifanus is a philanthropist, a pace-setter, a reknown politician whose support for the downtrodden has indelibly imprinted in the hearts of many and one of the title holders dear to the heart of the Gangwari of Ganye, our Paramount ruler. His Excellency will find in him a loyal and hard-working fellow with both national and international connections.
It is worthy of note that Habila distingushes himself from his political rivals as the only man in Ganye who have been into the business of human development, educational advancement, poverty alleviation, creation of self reliant jobs and opportunities to many people from time immemorial. As the President of Justice Peace and Reconciliation Movement (JPRM), many interest groups within and without Adamawa State have benefited in a diverse way from his NGO.
He has a massive support among the Muslim population in this State due to his interest and effort in promoting inter-religious dialogue between Christians and Muslims and between various tribes/ethnic groups in the state, he commands a massive group of loyal supporters and fans that cannot be quantified, mathematically.
Today in Ganye, whenever a new Bishop is elected, the representatives of the Muslim population will pay a courtesy visit to pay homage and this development has been promoted by a department under his NGO, Inter-religious Dialogue Department which is responsible for many young Muslims and Christians who have never been to Yola and Abuja travelling to Germany, USA, UK, Costa-Rico to sit face-to-face on the same table of their international counterparts to dialogue on common understanding among the adherence of the two religions – Christianity and Islam.
Under his NGO, many were sponsored on scholarship abroad, many are now benefitting as proud employees of the JPRM which now places Habila as the larger employer of labour, second only to the State Government in the State. The other political rivals cannot show any contribution they have achieved to their people let alone the state in general while Habila’s contribution to human development is Nationwide.
I urge all the PDP stakeholders to opt for the man of people and not just some Abuja politicians who are totally disconnected from the electorates and have no political relevance even in their Local Government Area let alone the state in general.
His Excellency, Governor Umaru Ahmadu Fintiri should resist all pressure from the mafia who I learnt is behind a certain candidate and do the right thing so that his Government will continue to be popular with the electorates.
