Bandits Invade Farms in Kaduna, Setting Over 200 Bags of Harvested Maize Ablaze
Farmers in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State have been left devastated after suspected bandits attacked their farms, setting over 200 bags of harvested maize ablaze.
The attack took place on Sunday night, targeting six farms in Kwaga village and Unguwar Zako, where the assailants set fire to the crops that had been harvested.
Reports from the community indicate that the local farmers are in shock and sorrow over the loss of their hard-earned produce.
A video obtained by the Daily Trust shows the burnt-out remains of the fields and distraught farmers consoling each other.
Among those severely impacted is Kabiru Halilu Kwaga, who had harvested more than 160 bags of maize last year and was expecting a larger yield this season. Regretfully, the fire destroyed his entire harvest.
Surajo Kwaga, who had gathered 40 bags last year, and Malam Dan Gido, who had harvested 50 bags and was hoping for 65 bags this year, also lost everything. Similarly, Jibril Haladu Kwaga’s maize was completely destroyed in the attack.
The farmers, now in despair, have turned to prayer for divine comfort and support during this trying time.
The infamous kingpin Yellow Jamboros is the leader of the gang that terrorises the neighbourhood, according to Ishaq Usman Kasai, the chairman of the Birnin Gwari-Niger Interboundaries Communities Association.
As of the time of this report, the state government has not issued an official statement regarding the attack.
