At least one soldier was killed during a weekend when terrorists from Boko Haram attacked Gajibo Village in Borno State's Dikwa Local Government Area on Monday.

The sources said according to SaharaReporters that the Nigerian troops were engaged in a gunfight during the attack by terrorists in gun trucks and several motorcycles, killing a soldier and injuring others.

The attack comes three days after the deaths of three soldiers in the state's Damasak district.

A humanitarian chopper belonging to the United Nations has also been damaged by bullets fired by the insurgents during last Thursday's assault.

The UN has lamented an upsurge in attacks targeting aid workers in the country's northeast.

On the border with Niger, the region around Damasak is controlled by the West African Islamic State Province, which broke away from Boko Haram in 2016.
