GOVERNOR ZULUM VISITS ARMY HEADQUARTERS, SEEKS MORE COLLABORATION TO END INSECURITY

Babagana Umara Zulum, the governor of Borno State, led senators from the state to Abuja on Monday to meet with the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Ibrahim Attahiru.

Senators Kashim Shettima (Borno Central), Mohammed Ali Ndume (Borno South), and Abubakar Kyari (Borno North), as well as Borno's caretaker chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ali Dalori, met with the service chiefs to discuss recent Boko Haram attacks in the state.

The visits were made one at a time, and each one was followed by a closed-door discussion.

Zulum paid an open courtesy call at the army chief's office before one of the closed doors, thanking soldiers for their loyalty, sacrifices, and dedication in the joint effort to restore peace in Borno.

The governor, on the other hand, urged the Nigerian military to continue to build trust between the people, the government, and the military.

"We must do everything possible to improve on the trust between the population, government, and the military. We need to work together, one thing we should do is to ensure ongoing operations are sustained and farmers are able to return to their farmlands so that we reduce reliance of food aid that is not sustainable. We will give the military all the necessary support, and continue to interface with you, hoping this problem will be resolved within the shortest time” Zulum said.

Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru, Chief of Army Staff, praised Governor Zulum for his unwavering support for the military and described the visit as timely. Such visits, he said, provide opportunities for fruitful idea exchange.
