BOSG disbursed N60M to victims of GSM market fire disaster

The Borno State government has disbursed N60 million to the victims of the Maiduguri GSM market fire disaster that engulfed the market..
Flagging off the disbursement at his Office,at the Government House, Maiduguri,the Borno,State Deputy Governor, Alhsji Umar Kadafir said the Committee on compensation of the victims established by the state governor, recommended N50 million as compensation but the governor in his magnanimity approved N60 million.
“The governor has graciously approved the sum of N60 million. We gave the governor proposal of N50 million but the governor increased it to N60 million,” Kadafri announced during the distribution of the money to victims,” Alhaji Kadafur said.
The Deputy Governir eho described the incident as sad cslked on the victim yo sccept it as sn sct of God and prayed such disaster should not happen in the state again.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman Compensation Committee who is also the Commisosner for Local Governments and Emirate Affairs,
Alhaji Sugum Mele said 47 shops were identified to have been burnt by the fire with all the items in them.
“We identified 16 people on the temporary shade, while 503 dhos Glass were affected., as identified by the executive members of the market that are occupying open space,” he stated
He said the process of verification of the identities of affection persons was concluded after the visit of the governor., adfing that athe ovvassiin was a flkaging off through cash payment,others will be paid in their accounts.
The fire incident engulfed the Market last Thursday night at about 8:40pm in the night when traders have closed their shoos for the day.
President Muhammdu Buhari also visited the scene of fire incident at the GSM (Jagal market), Maiduguri on Thurday and sympathized with them over the fire uncident .that led to the lost of millions of Naira.
The Presidrnt was represented by Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Farouk while addressing the massive crowd of marketers gathered to receive him at the scene in Maiduguri promised that the government would support traders whose means of livelihood were destroyed in the incident.
She said although there was lost of life, in the fire incident,but dozens of shops in the market were burnt down and traders lost goods worth millions of naira.
” I am directed by the President Muhammadu Buhari to convey his personal sympathy over recent loss as a result of fire incident that occurred last week, the President is deeply concerned about your plight . You are in good hands of Borno government and North East Development Commission(NEDC), I am aware the governor has prepared a good place for you that you relocate to, as you can the governor is passionate to assist all the victims.” Buhari said
In his response,the Borno state Governor Prof. Babagana Zulum said he has released sum of N50 million to bring succor to the plight of traders, while urging them to forward their account details.
