CAN suspends secretary over alleged N1.3m mismanagement

The suspension is to last three months, in which time the money is to be refunded.

The Christian Association of Nigeria's (CAN) Adamawa State chapter has suspended its Secretary, Mr Anthony Elishama, for alleged mismanagement of N1,350,000.

The suspension is to last three months, in which time the money is to be refunded.

The suspension order was contained in a statement signed by CAN 's state chairman, Bishop Stephen Mamza, who asked Anthony Elishama to immediately return all official properties to the Yola CAN State Secretariat.

In the statement obtained by The Gazette Nigeria on Saturday evening, Mamza explained that the suspension of Elishama was decided on Thursday during the association 's state executive meeting.

The CAN chairman,

"Mr Anthony Elishama’s suspension is as a result of mismanaging of funds belonging to the Nigerian Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) to the tune of N1.350 million.”

He said CAN 's state executive expressed disappointment with the action of the secretary adding that CAN leadership had zero tolerance to any kind of financial indiscipline.

He said the suspension of the secretary would come into effect from June 20, 2020, pending a final decision on the issue by the state executive committee.
