Cholera Outbreak: 17 cases confirmed, Killed 2 persons in Borno

Borno Rural water supply and sanitation agency on Wednesday reported 17 cases of cholera outbreak in the State.

Prior to the outbreak dated 08/08/2021 reported from Baleri settlement in Ngamdu ward of Kaga Local Govt of the State.

Where a case was suspected, a report and sampling were carried out to Umaru Shehu in the state capital where it was confirmed and sampling was carried also at UMTH.

17 Cholera cases were confirmed, 14 people were discharged and 2 people were dead and active of 1 person in the State.

The General Manager RUWASSA, Mohammed Musa Aliyu, acted promptly as informed by the office of SSA and SA, Lawan Bukar Ngamdu and Muhammad Hakim Mustapha on RUWASSA to the Executive Governor Babagana Umara Zullum about the outbreak in Ngamdu.

Aliyu immediately gave directives for relief materials for WASH to be in place for the containment of the outbreak and a team was mobilized and in a place where the General Manager was represented by the SSA & SA on RUWASSA accompanied by the Hygiene team with Directives through the Director Hygiene of RUWASSA.

The team will also facilitate a 3-day exercise on WASH facilitation and all necessary steps in preventing further occurrence of the disease at the local govt with the collaboration of the Primarily healthcare personals.

The Chairman Kaga Local Govt Bunu Goniri, together with his Secretary and the Head of primary healthcare received the relief material at Ngamdu Clinic in Kaga Local Govt, comprising of chorine, sprayer, water disinfectant, face mask, and cloves, rain boots Etc.

The Chairman Commented on the efforts and rapid response of the Agency and applauded His Excellency's untiring efforts for the people of Kaga Local Govt and Borno State at large.
