In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Chief Barr. LD Nzadon, the GPF congratulated the ethnic communities benefiting from the creation of these chiefdoms and emirates.
The forum described the development as a landmark moment, marking the end of decades of agitation by these groups for self-administration in line with their customary laws.
“This epoch-making event represents a significant milestone for our people, who have long yearned for the right to govern their traditional affairs without interference from alien systems imposed during colonial rule,” the statement read.
The GPF called on the communities to ensure peaceful and transparent selection processes for their chiefs and emirs, urging them to build strong foundations for their newly established entities based on their customs and traditions.
The forum also commended Governor Fintiri for his boldness in addressing the historical grievances of the affected ethnic groups.
“This decision reflects the Governor’s sensitivity to the aspirations of the people and his courage in overcoming resistance that has persisted for over a century,” the statement noted.
Additionally, the GPF acknowledged the efforts of its leaders and supporters who have championed this cause over the years.
It encouraged them to continue advocating for the rights of other ethnic nationalities yet to achieve self-determination and autonomy.
The establishment of the new chiefdoms and emirates is expected to foster cultural preservation, unity, and development across Adamawa State.
