DG Commends President Tinubu’s Commitment to TAC Scheme, Urges Volunteers to Excel in Assignments
The Director General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support in advancing the Corps’ mission.
Speaking in Abuja on Monday during the deployment of Technical Aid Corps Volunteers to Seychelles and Sierra Leone, Buba highlighted Nigeria’s 37-year tradition of deploying professional volunteers to developing nations in Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific. This initiative, rooted in the spirit of the United Nations’ South-South Cooperation, has seen over 10,000 volunteers serve in more than 40 countries.
The DG emphasized the outstanding contributions of Nigerian volunteers, known for their competence, humility, and dedication, which have earned appreciation from host countries and institutions. He urged the newly deployed volunteers to uphold this legacy by committing to quality service delivery and adapting to the challenges they may encounter in their host countries.
“I understand that some of you may own big homes in Nigeria, but please make do with whatever you are offered in your place of service,” he stated. “You must commit to making this country and our dear President proud on this national call to duty. If you have any challenges, please contact our Mission in the country where you are serving.”
He reassured the volunteers of NTAC’s commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities under the tripartite agreements signed with the host countries.
Ambassador Zakari Usman, NTAC’s Director of Programmes, encouraged the volunteers to emulate the exemplary service of their predecessors and project Nigeria’s values of competence and character during their two-year service period.
Representing the volunteers, Mr. Salmanu Mamman-Shatta expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the opportunity to serve and pledged to make the nation proud.
Notable figures attended the deployment ceremony, including NTAC’s Director of Administration, Amb. Yakubu Abdullahi Ahmed; Deputy Director (Admin.), Amb. Saidu Muhammed; Deputy Director (Accounts), Mrs. Meimunat Haruna Mustapha; and Special Assistant to the DG on Media Matters, Mr. Abdulkadir Iliyasu.
The event underscored NTAC’s mission to foster international cooperation and build global goodwill through impactful volunteer service.
