### Nigerian Technical Aid Corps Sends 15 Volunteers to Uganda, Strengthens South-South Cooperation
**Abuja, Nigeria** – The Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) will deploy 15 academics to various universities in Uganda on Monday, furthering the country’s commitment to brotherhood and development across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific (ACP) regions. This initiative aligns with NTAC’s goal of enhancing South-South cooperation through technical assistance.
At the pre-departure orientation ceremony, Director General Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, represented by Amb. Zakari Usman, Director of Programmes at NTAC, praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its unwavering support in providing technical manpower to ACP countries. He emphasized the importance of this deployment in promoting development and cooperation among these nations.
Buba urged the selected volunteers to view their roles as humanitarian efforts aimed at improving global living conditions. He highlighted the competitive selection process, noting that the volunteers were chosen from thousands of applicants, reflecting the significance of their mission.
“The TAC Scheme is a national call to promote our country’s interests and help humanity face daily challenges,” said Buba. He advised the volunteers to uphold the scheme’s spirit and intent, avoiding any actions that could compromise its objectives.
Professor Clement Gboyega Afolabi, Team Lead and Professor of Plant Pathology at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent Nigeria.
He lauded the transparent selection process and assured that the team would uphold Nigeria’s reputation in Uganda.
Dr. Usman Bature Isyaku from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, and Dr. Peter Chika Uzomba from the Department of Economics at the Federal University, Lokoja, echoed these sentiments.
They emphasized that the TAC Scheme aligns with their academic responsibilities of teaching, research, and community service.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Amb. Mohammed Shehu Kangiwa, former Director of Programmes at NTAC; Mr. Lawandy Bala, Special Assistant on Protocol Matters to the TAC DG; and Mr. James Dung Pam, a Senior Counselor at the Corps, among others.
This deployment marks another step in Nigeria’s efforts to foster international development and cooperation through the sharing of technical expertise and knowledge.
