Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will earn a total of N2m after one year of compulsory service as part of the Federal Government's empowerment programs.

Only those whose interest comes under agriculture will be the beneficiaries of this amount, as the government is looking to raise interests in the field.

Patricia Pessu, Executive Director of the Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute (NSPRI), disclosed this development on Monday at a workshop in Kwara State to promote the value of agricultural products.

According to Pessu, whose speech was presented to 40 members of the corps from 16 local government areas in Kwara State, the program benefited two of the members of the corps whose posts were in Oyo and Abia States.

Pessu spoke about the growing number of young people who are unemployed in the country.

He said that 64% of young Nigerians are unemployed, describing the population as the "most agile working-class population"

“This youth population is also about 64 per cent of total unemployed Nigerians, suggesting that the most agile working-class population in the country remains unemployed,” Pessu said.

Commending NSPRI, the corps' State Coordinator, Francisca Olaleye, confirmed that the fund's beneficiaries must ensure that it was used.
