EFCC Arrests 4 Chinese Nationals, 101 Others in Abuja for Internet Fraud
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 105 individuals, including four Chinese nationals, in a major bust at a business apartment in the Gudu area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The arrests were part of the EFCC’s ongoing battle against internet fraud and corruption, with operatives capturing 101 Nigerians alongside the Chinese suspects. The operation took place on Thursday, January 9, as revealed in a statement by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.
“In its ongoing efforts to clean the nation of internet fraud and other acts of corruption, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested four Chinese and 101 Nigerians in a business apartment in the Gudu axis of Abuja,” the anti-graft agency stated.
According to the EFCC, the group was involved in a complex hotel review job scam, targeting victims and businesses in Europe and other parts of the world. The arrested suspects, including 67 men and 38 women, are expected to face prosecution once investigations are concluded.
The EFCC’s crackdown is part of its broader efforts to dismantle illegal activities related to internet fraud, which have been wreaking havoc on businesses and individuals globally. The agency has vowed to continue its pursuit of justice and ensure that those involved in corruption are held accountable.
The arrests come amid rising global concerns over online scams and fraud, with authorities in various countries intensifying their efforts to combat these illegal activities. The EFCC’s recent success highlights the agency’s commitment to ridding the nation of fraud and corruption, strengthening its resolve to bring those responsible to justice.
