Fearing for her life, a lesbian takes drastic measures to protect herself from a violent ex-lover.

Since their romance turned sour, a troubled Zimbabwean lesbian took her abusive ex-lover to court.

Linda Sphiwe Mpofu, a resident of Bulawayo's Barbourfields suburb, went to Bulawayo Civil Court to seek protection against her ex-lover Brenda Mugabazi, who she claimed was aggressive, abusive, and now stalking and threatening her for ending the relationship.

Despite the fact that they were no longer together, Linda complained that Brenda had an insatiable appetite and was still asking for something.

She added;
"I have been living a lesbian life with Brenda (Mugabazi) who forced me into it and I have realised that I cannot continue with it… I am begging the honourable court to grant me a protection order against her…This is because I want to live a normal life again.

"On 25 December 2020, she beat me up and I sustained a swollen left knee and foot and I am still limping up to now. Whenever she meets me, she harasses me and declares that I can't leave her."

Linda said her condition had deteriorated after she was given an interim security order in January, since Brenda continually threatened her and maintained that she would never let her go because she (Linda) was her wife.

The case was presided over by Magistrate Nkosinomusa Ncube, who claimed that the January interim protection order had been upgraded to a final protection order and cautioned Brenda to stay away from Linda. She also warned her that if she spoke to Linda in any way, she would be arrested for violating the protective order.
