FG Launches Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework in Colleges of Education
The Federal Government has officially launched the implementation of the Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) in the Colleges of Education sector.
This initiative aims to enhance the self-reliance and employability of graduates from these institutions.
At a recent workshop focused on strategies for implementing the NSQF in Colleges of Education (Technical), Minister of Education Professor Tahir Mamman, represented by Zubairu Abdullahi, Director of Special Duties, emphasized the importance of skill acquisition in tackling unemployment in Nigeria.
Mamman expressed confidence that integrating the NSQF into colleges would benefit both the local communities and the broader educational landscape, leading to the development of skilled National Certificate in Education (NCE) graduates.
He praised the collaboration between the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in extending the NSQF program to these institutions.
“This initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by fostering self-reliant graduates,” Mamman noted.
Prof. Paulinus Chijioke, Executive Secretary of the NCCE, highlighted the initiative’s impact, stating that it would equip graduates not only to teach at the basic education level but also to gain employability skills crucial for self-sufficiency and contributing to economic growth.
Chijioke reflected on the progress made since the inception of the NSQF idea last year and the workshop’s role in familiarizing Provosts and Desk Officers with the framework’s implementation strategies.
He commended Provosts for their support and commitment to the program, despite the challenges posed by security and economic conditions.
The NSQF aims to develop, classify, and recognize skills, knowledge, understanding, and competencies acquired by graduates from training institutions.
It provides a clear framework for what learners need to achieve and how, whether through conventional classroom learning, on-the-job experience, or informal education settings.
