FilmOne Defends 2024 Box Office Rankings Amid Controversy
FilmOne Entertainment, Nigeria’s top film production and distribution company, has defended the integrity of its recently published 2024 Nigeria Box Office Rankings. The company dismissed concerns about the selection process and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency.
Since 2020, the Nigerian Box Office Yearbook has been a key industry resource. It provides data-driven insights that filmmakers, investors, and stakeholders rely on for decision-making. FilmOne assured that its rankings are based on structured industry metrics and reliable data.
The company stated that its rankings are developed in collaboration with Comscore and the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN). The process evaluates box office performance, screen time, and the overall impact of talent contributions. Executive producers validate the selections before finalization.
Amid growing inquiries about the ranking criteria, FilmOne issued clarifications. The company explained that to qualify for any category, performers must have appeared in at least one cinema-released film that grossed a minimum of 20 million Naira between January 1 and December 31 of the eligibility year.
“To qualify as a lead performer, an individual must be the designated lead in the films in question,” FilmOne stated. “Two male and two female supporting performers are selected in each category, with validation from the producers and executive producers.”
FilmOne emphasized that the Box Office Yearbook is an essential industry document. It serves as a reference point for Nollywood and international stakeholders. The company reassured that it upholds professional diligence in compiling and publishing the rankings.
“As the industry continues to evolve, FilmOne Entertainment will remain a beacon of transparency, accuracy, and professionalism,” the statement read. “Our goal is to provide a valuable resource for box office analytics and aggregation.”
The company urged all stakeholders to engage with verified data. It called for upholding the standards that maintain credibility in Nigeria’s growing film industry.
