Gov Fintiri Awards Trophy at Alkali Football Tournament in Jimeta

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri attended the final of the 2nd edition of the Hon. Sulaiman Alkali Inter-Ward Football Tournament on Saturday, August 3, 2024. The event, held at the Jimeta Temporary Stadium, concluded with Governor Fintiri presenting the trophy to the winning team.

In a thrilling final, Alkalawa Ward triumphed over Nassarawo Ward in a penalty shootout, securing a 4-2 victory after a goalless draw in regular time. Governor Fintiri, who kicked off the final match, expressed his enthusiasm for the future of sports in the state, promising that once the new state stadium under construction is completed, it will provide top-notch facilities for various sporting activities.

Governor Fintiri also commended all participating wards for their sportsmanship and encouraged continued involvement in sports. He assured the crowd that his administration remains committed to providing platforms and opportunities for talented youth, despite the unrest reported in other parts of the country.

The tournament sponsor, Hon. Sulaiman Alkali, a member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to the tournament’s success. He highlighted that the event achieved its goal of promoting unity and pledged to support state government efforts to maintain peace and develop youth.

The prize money distribution was as follows: Rumde Ward, which secured third place, received ₦250,000; Nassarawo Ward, the runner-up, received ₦500,000; and the winners, Alkalawa Ward, took home ₦1,000,000.

Alkalawa’s Head Coach, Habu Bature, praised Governor Fintiri for his dedication to youth development and his plans for the new stadium. He believes these efforts will enhance the productivity of the youth and contribute to increased revenue for the state.

The final match was attended by Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Bathiya Wesley, along with traditional and religious leaders and numerous youth groups, all of whom witnessed the exciting conclusion of the tournament.
