Najeebat Sule, a former Nigerian beauty queen and doctoral student, was shot and killed in her car in front of her family's home in Philadelphia.

Najee, a 24-year-old woman known to her family as Najee, was shot and killed just before 6 p.m. on March 12th, just steps away from her home in the 8800 block of Frankford Avenue.

Police have not identified a motive and have made no arrests almost three weeks later, leaving Sule's family and friends in the dark. Her Master's degree in public health had just recently been completed.

Magaji, one of Sule's colleagues, was one of the last people to see her alive before she was gunned down. The two women had stayed at Magaji's house the night before, eating snacks and watching Netflix together.

Sule was sitting in her grey Toyota Corolla, exchanging text messages with Magaji, less than 24 hours later, when an unidentified man approached the car with a gun drawn and shot her several times.

Adewale Sule, Sule's father, heard the gunshots and ran out of the house just in time to see the suspect fire the final shot at his daughter.

“I saw the guy shooting my daughter. He shot the last round, and I pursued him. He ran back to his car,” said the father.

Najee was rushed to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where she died about 30 minutes later.

Tawakalitu Sule, Najeet's mother, said she last heard from her daughter less than two hours before the shooting, when she asked when she would be home.

Her parents and two sisters are her only survivors. Sule had recently graduated from West Chester University with a Master's degree in public health and was seeking a doctorate.

She placed second runner-up in the Miss Nigeria International pageant in 2019.

Najee's death comes amid a spike in gun violence in Philadelphia, which has seen a 29 percent rise in murder rates in the last year.

According to Fox29, she is one of 120 people killed in Philadelphia so far this year.
