The All Progressives Congress' (APC) National Executive Committee (NEC) has accepted exemptions for new members.

This would allow them to participate in party primaries before the 2023 elections without waiting, as previously required, for two years.

President Muhammadu Buhari chaired the APC NEC meeting on Tuesday, held at the State House in Abuja.

The meeting instructed the Democratic Party of the People (PDP) to stop the "politicisation" of insecurity in Nigeria.

The opposition and all stakeholders were encouraged by the APC body to join hands with the federal government to end the threat.

Yemi Osinbajo, Vice President; Ahmad Lawan, Senate President; Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives; Mai Mala Buni, Chairman, Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee; and Governor of Yoube, the House of Representatives; Governors and some party officials attended the meeting.

However in states, voting districts, wards, local councils, and zones, all party structures have been abolished.

The Buni-led Caretaker Committee's term has also been extended by six months.
