Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has appointed Umar Farouk Ibrahim as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG). The appointment was confirmed on Saturday through a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Ibrahim’s tenure officially begins on Monday, February 10, 2025.
According to the statement, the decision was based on Ibrahim’s extensive experience in public service. The governor believes that his expertise will play a crucial role in achieving the administration’s goals and driving development in Kano State.
Umar Farouk Ibrahim has built an outstanding career in public administration, serving for more than three decades. His contributions to governance have shaped many policies and administrative structures in Kano.
Between 1987 and 2023, he held several leadership positions. From March 2001 to May 2015, he served as the Permanent Secretary for Research, Evaluation, and Political Affairs in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government. In this role, he analyzed policies, advised on key decisions, and supervised policy execution across various ministries and agencies.
His reputation as a trusted administrator grew when he was appointed Permanent Secretary for Administration and General Services from June 2015 to March 2016. His leadership skills and efficiency earned him opportunities to serve as acting Secretary to the State Government in 2013 and 2014 when needed.
Beyond his official duties, Ibrahim played a significant role in major committees. He was the Secretary of the Coordinating Committee on Independent Power (2012-2015) and the Committee on the Identification and Sale of Government Property in 2012. He also served as Secretary of the State Payroll Standing Committee from 2000 to 2004.
His contributions to community and education reforms were equally notable. In 1998, he was Secretary of the Inter-Community/Religious Consultative Forum, and in 1994, he assisted in reviewing the operations of the Agency for Mass Education.
Ibrahim’s academic background further strengthens his credentials. He holds a B.Sc. in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, obtained in 1985. Over the years, he has acquired multiple professional certifications that complement his administrative expertise.
As a retired Permanent Secretary and an experienced administrator, Ibrahim is expected to bring strategic thinking, policy insights, and a results-driven approach to his new role.
