Hyundai Nigeria Moves to Ease Transport Costs with Locally Made CNG Vehicles
Hyundai Nigeria, a subsidiary of Stallion Group, has expanded its commitment to sustainable transport by introducing locally assembled Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles, as part of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (Pi-CNG). This initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s efforts to provide environmentally friendly and cost-effective transportation solutions for Nigerians.
The newly assembled models include the Hyundai Grand i10, Accent, Creta, and Tucson. These vehicles are designed for a wide range of customers, from fleet operators to individual buyers. According to Gaurav Vashisht, Hyundai Nigeria’s head of sales and marketing, these CNG vehicles target customers focused on reliability and lower operational costs.
“For instance, the CNG Grand i10 is aimed at fleet owners and first-time buyers who prioritise affordability and reliability. Unlike converted used petrol vehicles, these come factory-fitted with CNG kits, including bulletproof CNG cylinders, which are safer than conventional petrol tanks and occupy less trunk space,” Vashisht explained.
The introduction of CNG-powered vehicles in Nigeria comes with several benefits, especially considering the rising cost of petrol, which currently sells for almost N1,000 per litre. CNG vehicle owners pay an equivalent of about N300 per litre, making it a more affordable option for fuel. Additionally, CNG emits significantly less carbon than traditional fossil fuels, making it more environmentally friendly.
To make the vehicles accessible to more buyers, Hyundai Nigeria has also introduced auto finance options. These vehicles are backed by a three-year unlimited mileage warranty and are supported by Stallion Group’s extensive nationwide aftersales network.
The newly introduced CNG models come with enhanced features such as fuel efficiency, safety systems, and modern designs. The Hyundai Grand i10, for example, is equipped with an anti-lock brake system (ABS), rear parking assist, and dual airbags. Meanwhile, the Accent boasts a strong body structure, six airbags, ABS, and a rearview camera.
The Creta and Tucson models are designed for safety and performance, with features like Cruise Control, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, and advanced engines offering smart transmission options. Tucson, with its 2.0-litre Smartstream engine, is particularly noteworthy for its innovative safety systems such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Blind-Spot View Monitor, providing a stylish and secure option for Nigerian auto buyers.
Hyundai Nigeria’s push for CNG vehicles is expected to play a pivotal role in reducing transport costs and promoting cleaner energy alternatives in the country.
