IGP Egbetokun Donates N10 Million to Families of Deceased Kano Accident Victims, Provides Additional Compensation for Injured Officers
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetoku, PhD, NPM, has made a generous donation to the families of the 16 officers involved in a tragic motor accident on September 24, 2024. The officers, who were returning from Edo State after election duty, were involved in a fatal crash along the Zaria-Kano Expressway, Karfi Kura, resulting in the loss of five officers and the hospitalization of 11 others. Following medical care, eight officers have been discharged, while three remain in treatment.
In response to the tragedy, IGP Egbetokun has provided N10 million to the families of each of the five deceased officers, N2 million to those still receiving medical care, and N500,000 to each of the eight officers who have been discharged. The total donation amounts to N60 million.
In addition to this relief, the IGP has directed the Police Insurance Unit and the Police Accounts & Budget Department to expedite the processing of life insurance and welfare benefits for the deceased officers and other affected personnel. These donations are separate from the officers’ statutory benefits from the Nigeria Police Force.
The IGP emphasized that the welfare of police personnel remains a top priority and reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to supporting its officers and their families, especially in difficult times. IGP Egbetokun extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured officers a speedy recovery.
This act of support aims to ensure the dignity and well-being of the officers, further strengthening their ability to deliver effective service.
