In retaliation for attacks on a Gaza tower block, the Palestinian militant group, Hamas said it launched more than 200 rockets into Israel on Wednesday.

In a statement, Hamas' armed wing said it was "in the process of firing 110 rockets towards the city of Tel Aviv" and 100 rockets toward Beersheva in the south, "in the process of firing 110 rockets towards the city of Tel Aviv”, and 100 rockets towards the southern town of Beersheva, “as reprisal for the restarting of strikes against civilian homes".

According to the Israel Defense Forces, sirens sounded in both locations shortly after the declaration, and families in Tel Aviv were roused and rushed to bomb shelters.

Hamas had previously claimed responsibility for the demolition of a nine-story building in Gaza, the Israeli-controlled enclave.
