IS HUDU ABOVE THE LAW? JUSTICE DELAYED IS JUSTICE DENIED!

IS HUDU ABOVE THE LAW? JUSTICE DELAYED IS JUSTICE DENIED!
The people of Adamawa State and all advocates of democracy continue to ask: What is happening with the prosecution of Barr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari?
Why is justice taking so long?
During the 2023 general elections, the former Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Barr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari, illegally declared the gubernatorial election results while collation was still ongoing—an unprecedented violation of the Electoral Act and Nigeria’s democratic process.
His unlawful action almost robbed the people of Adamawa State of their mandate, but thanks to the swift intervention of the Federal Government, his attempt to subvert democracy was thwarted.
However, despite the clear illegality of his actions, the case has dragged on in court for far too long, raising serious concerns about the commitment to justice and the integrity of Nigeria’s legal system. The people of Adamawa State deserve justice, and delaying it only emboldens future electoral offenders.
THE LEGAL IMPLICATIONS
Hudu’s actions violated multiple provisions of Nigerian law, including:
• Section 120 of the Electoral Act (2022) criminalizes the unlawful announcement of election results.
• Section 123 of the Electoral Act (2022)—Prohibits electoral fraud and misconduct.
• Sections 364 and 366 of the Nigerian Criminal Code relate to forgery and abuse of office.
If electoral crimes of this magnitude are not met with swift and decisive legal consequences, it will set a dangerous precedent and undermine public confidence in Nigeria’s democracy.

A CALL FOR JUSTICE
We call on:
• The Federal Government of Nigeria,
• The Supreme Court,
• The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),
• The Nigerian Judiciary,
• And all relevant law enforcement agencies
to ensure that Barr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari is held accountable for his actions. Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done, as delayed justice weakens democracy and emboldens electoral malpractice.
The people of Adamawa State—and indeed all Nigerians—deserve nothing less than a fair, transparent, and swift judicial process that serves as a deterrent to future election riggers.
Democracy must be protected. Justice must prevail.
