In a recent development concerning India’s security landscape, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar addressed the ongoing investigation into an alleged assassination plot targeting Khalistani extremist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.

Responding to queries regarding US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti’s assertion that such involvement would constitute an “unacceptable red line,” Jaishankar underscored the significance of India’s national security interests in the probe.

Jaishankar acknowledged Garcetti’s statement, noting that the ambassador represents the perspective of his government.

However, he emphasized India’s commitment to investigating the matter, stating,

“It is something we are investigating as we believe our own national security interests are involved in that investigation.”

This assertion underscores the gravity of the situation and India’s proactive stance in safeguarding its security interests.

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Jaishankar reiterated that India’s security interests are at stake in the ongoing investigation.

He affirmed that the Indian government will provide updates on the investigation as they become available. However, at present, the focus remains on conducting a thorough inquiry to address the issue effectively.

Shifting gears, Jaishankar also addressed concerns regarding Indian nationals being ensnared in the Ukraine conflict after being lured to Russia under false pretenses of employment.

Jaishankar emphasized that India has taken up the issue “very very strongly” with the Russian government, signaling the seriousness with which India regards the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad.

Last month, according to Live Mint, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had shed light on the plight of numerous Indians who were deceived into working with the Russian Army.

He highlighted India’s firm stance on the matter, stating that New Delhi had firmly addressed the issue with Moscow to expedite the safe return of affected individuals.

Jaiswal cautioned against falling prey to deceptive recruitment tactics and urged Indian citizens to exercise caution when offered roles with potential risks to life.
