JUST IN: FEC approves $1.96bn for Kano-to-Niger Republic rail line

The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the construction of a railway line connecting Nigeria to the Niger Republic.

For this initiative, $1,959,744,723.71 was approved by the government.

This announcement was made on Thursday by the Transportation Minister, Chibuike Amaechi.

The Federal Executive Council, FEC, chaired by Buhari, reached an agreement.

Amaechi, who addressed correspondents from the State House, said the amount approved for the Kano-Dutse-Katsina-Jibia and Maradi railway line project in the Niger Republic is Value Added Tax inclusive.

The FEC also approved, according to the Minister, the award of a contract worth N3,049 billion for the design, manufacture, supply, testing and commissioning of a single railway crane in the event of an accident for the purpose of clearing railway tracks.
