JUST IN: In Adamawa, five people were killed in a petrol tanker explosion

Five people were killed in a petrol fire in Mubi, Adamawa State's northernmost town.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started at a filling station in Kasuwan Gyela in the early hours of Wednesday when fuel was being transferred directly from a petrol tanker into hundreds of jerry cans.

Residents told the newsmen that at least five people died as a result of the fire, while many others were injured.

Adamu Madobi, a volunteer relief worker, said he saw three brothers perish in the tragic tragedy.

The fire also burned dozens of tricycles parked surrounding the fueling station, according to Madobi.

Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman, the Executive Secretary of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADDEMA), confirmed the tragedy, saying three people had died and two others were being treated at a hospital.
