Lagos court sentence Man to 14 years for Sex Assault Case

Lagos court has handed down a 14-year prison sentence to Damilare Adewale for the attempted sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl. The Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja, Lagos, delivered the ruling after Adewale pleaded guilty to charges related to the incident.

The court heard testimonies from the survivor and her guardian, who both served as prosecution witnesses. According to the survivor, Adewale had previously invited her to his apartment, but she had rejected the request. On the day of the incident, Adewale accosted her, forcibly took her into his room, and attempted to rape her.

The survivor stated, “I was crying and shouting and observed blood gushing out of my private part.” Justice Rahman Oshodi delivered the ruling, stating that Adewale’s guilty plea led to the reduced sentence. “Damilare Adewale, you have pleaded guilty to the offence of attempt to commit sexual assault by penetration,” Oshodi said.

“I hereby sentence you to 14 years imprisonment, commencing on August 13, 2020, the date of your remand in custody.” The court also ordered that Adewale’s name be registered as a sexual offender under the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law of Lagos State, 2021.
