Lagos Traffic Advisory Warns of Major Road Closure for APC Primaries

Lagos traffic advisory has warned residents of a major road shutdown to manage expected congestion during the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries scheduled for Saturday. The Lagos State Government said the temporary closure aims to keep movement smooth and safe throughout the election exercise.

Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, explained that the entire stretch of ACME Road in Ikeja would be closed to vehicles on the day of the primary. This measure, he said, is necessary to maintain order and prevent traffic gridlock during the event, which is expected to attract large crowds and heavy vehicular movement.

He announced that no vehicles will be allowed to access ACME Road from Adeniyi Jones, Lateef Jakande, or ACME Crescent. The affected routes form a busy traffic hub in Lagos, often used by residents commuting to offices, businesses, and homes.

To reduce the pressure on the road network, the government released a list of alternative routes. Motorists coming from Adeniyi Jones should link Aromire Street to reach Allen Junction and continue their trip from there. For those approaching from Allen, the advisory recommends using Aromire to connect Ladipo Oluwole and reach Guinness Road, which will take them to their final destinations.

Mr. Osiyemi also advised drivers on Akilo Road to use Wemco Road as a detour. From there, they can either link Lateef Jakande or proceed through Omole to bypass the traffic zone.

“This traffic advisory is part of our effort to ensure a smooth primary election exercise without disrupting daily movement in the city,” Osiyemi said. “If you do not have any urgent or necessary business around the ACME Road axis, please consider avoiding the area to ease movement and reduce congestion.”

To support the diversion, officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed across the affected areas. Their duty will be to manage the flow of vehicles, enforce the temporary restrictions, and provide assistance to confused or stranded drivers.

Osiyemi appealed to Lagosians to plan their travel ahead of time. According to him, early planning can prevent delays and confusion on Saturday. He stressed that residents should follow LASTMA officers’ directions and use the recommended detours.

The traffic plan is part of a broader move by the Lagos State Government to combine political activity with functional urban mobility. As political primaries continue to intensify in the state, the APC primaries stand out as a high-impact event likely to disrupt daily life if not carefully managed.
