Lamido of Adamawa Inaugurates Strong 19-Member Panel to Honor Fombina Dynasty

The Lamido of Adamawa, Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa, has inaugurated a 19-member steering committee to organize an elaborate celebration honoring the Fombina Royal Dynasty’s contributions to Nigeria’s evolution since 1809.

The initiative aims to highlight the dynasty’s impact on the nation’s cultural and historical landscape.

During the committee’s inaugural meeting at the Lamido’s palace in Yola on Saturday, Lamido Barkindo reaffirmed the vital role of traditional institutions in preserving history, culture, and heritage.

He emphasized that emirates and chiefdoms must continue safeguarding their historical legacies for future generations.

The Royal Historians Foundation of Nigeria initiated the commemoration project in collaboration with the Adamawa Emirate Council.

This effort forms part of the foundation’s Northern Nigeria Heritage Series, which seeks to document and celebrate the region’s rich cultural history.

The steering committee chairman, Emir of Zazzau Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, expressed gratitude to the Lamido for his support and commitment to promoting Northern Nigeria’s cultural heritage.

He pledged to execute the assignment with diligence and dedication, ensuring the program’s success.

To achieve its goals, the committee will establish subcommittees responsible for various activities.

These include a book launch on the Fombina Dynasty, Lamido’s Crystal Jubilee celebration, a seminar on 19th-century scholarly works, a museum exhibition, a special fada (Friday homage), a special Jumu’a (Friday prayer), and a horse race competition known as Kilisa.

The full list of the 19-member steering committee is as follows:

  2. His Highness Alhaji (Dr) Yahaya Abubakar CFR – Co-Chairman (Etsu Nupe)
  3. Malam Mustafa Aminu – Deputy Chairman (Galadima Adamawa)
  4. Alhaji Abdulkadir Aminu Mbamba – Wali Adamawa
  5. Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Musdafa OFR – Sardauna Adamawa
  6. Alhaji Abubakar B. Madawaki – Dallatu Adamawa
  7. Alhaji Sadiq Umar Daware – Dan Lawan Adamawa
  8. Alhaji Mustapha Dahiru Musdafa – Yerima Adamawa
  9. Alhaji Musa Halilu Ahmed – Dujima Adamawa
  10. Engr. Umar Buba Bindir Ph.D. – Babban Mufti Adamawa
  11. Hon. Ibrahim Mijinyawa Yayaji – Marafa Adamawa
  12. Lawan Sheikh Muhammad Ph.D. – Zanna Adamawa
  13. Alhaji Abubakar Jika – Ardo Nyibango (District Head of Nyibango)
  14. Malam Babayola Muhammadu Toungo – Special Adviser to the Governor
  15. Alhaji Abubakar Magaji Fada – Wakili Tarihi Daura

This commemoration aims to highlight its influence, ensuring future generations appreciate the region’s rich history and heritage.
