Celebrity influencer, Instagram content creator and entrepreneur Charles Aghogho, popularly known as ‘Ironside’, has reacted to the just-released report by the Lagos State Judicial Panel of inquiry on restitution for victims of the SARS related abuses and other matters.
 
The panel’s report which indicted the Nigerian Army made various recommendations which included among others; adequate funding and effective training for the police, and provision of requisite accoutrements and equipment. The panel also recommended a better and more harmonized communication system with all security apparatus of Lagos state, and the improvement of the welfare of police officers particularly as it relates to increment in salary, well-equipped offices, provision of decent accommodation and transportation.

The Honourable Justice Doris Okuwobi, (Retired) led panel also recommended disciplinary actions for some of the officers who refused to honour the summons of the panel in order to frustrate the investigation. The panel called for all officers and men of the Nigerian Army that were deployed to the Lekki Toll Gate on October 20, 2020, to face appropriate disciplinary action, be stripped of their status, and /or dismissed as they are not fit and proper to serve in any public or security service of the nation.

The panel also recommended that all those arrested in the course of the protest should be granted bail, prosecuted for any offence that may be alleged against them or where no prima facie evidence of culpability is disclosed upon due investigation, be released immediately. The report also recommended that the Nigeria Army be discouraged from intervening in internal security matters.

The report has seen a wave of mixed reactions from public figures, politicians, entertainers and prominent personalities both in Nigeria and the diaspora. In his reaction to the report, the South African based digital content creator, philanthropist and comedian, said the report has vindicated the Nigerian youth and called on the federal government to take appropriate action to ameliorate the plight of the Nigeria youths by creating infrastructure and programs that will result in jobs creation and development.

He further called on the youths to participate in partisan politics as a way of ensuring that their interests are protected in governance and urged them to be law-abiding citizens, to eschew violence and all acts that will infringe on the security and unity of Nigeria.
