Man in Hot Water for Demanding Sex from Neighbour’s Wife
A 42-year-old man, Ogundar Anuoluwapo, has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over allegations of sexual harassment involving his neighbour’s wife.
Anuoluwapo, whose residence was not disclosed, is facing charges of sexual harassment. However, he pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him in court on Thursday.
Prosecutor Sergeant Alice Ojo informed the court that the alleged offence took place on December 8, 2024, at around 5:00 p.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
According to Sgt. Ojo, the accused persistently harassed Mrs. Esther Skiru, his neighbour’s wife, by making repeated sexual advances and requesting intercourse. Ojo further revealed that Anuoluwapo also allegedly issued threats to the complainant while making his overtures.
The prosecutor argued that the offence violated Section 270(1) & (2) of the Ekiti State Criminal Law, 2021. She requested the court to grant her time to examine the case file and prepare witnesses for the trial.
In her submission, the defence counsel, Mrs. Adunni Olanipekun, appealed to the court to grant her client bail, assuring that he would comply with all court requirements and not abscond.
Presiding over the case, Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted bail to Anuoluwapo in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum. Adeosun stressed that the surety must present verifiable means of identification.
The court subsequently adjourned the matter to February 20, 2025, for further mention.
This case underscores the rising awareness and enforcement of laws addressing sexual harassment in Ekiti State, with authorities urging residents to report similar incidents to protect vulnerable individuals in the community.
