In a heartbreaking incident at Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe, Ikorodu, Lagos State, 30-year-old Motunrayo Olaniyi allegedly stabbed his newlywed wife, Olajumoke, to death before setting their house on fire.
The tragic event occurred during a heated argument on Friday, leading to a fatal domestic dispute between the couple. According to the Lagos State Police Command, Motunrayo attacked his 25-year-old wife, stabbing her multiple times.
After the stabbing, according to Naija News, Motunrayo locked Olajumoke’s body in a room and set the house ablaze. In a disturbing twist, he also reportedly inflicted injuries on himself after the attack.
Police officers arrived at the scene following a distress call and quickly extinguished the fire. Sadly, they discovered Olajumoke’s lifeless body with multiple abdominal wounds.
“A distress call was received on October 4 from Ikorodu Division that a newlywed couple, Motunrayo Olaniyi and his wife Olajumoke, were involved in a domestic scuffle,” said Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command.
He added, “The husband reportedly stabbed his wife to death, locked her in the room, and set it on fire, while also injuring himself. The police arrived at the scene, put out the fire, and found Olajumoke’s lifeless body.”
Olajumoke’s body was taken to Ikorodu General Hospital for an autopsy, while Motunrayo was rescued by the police and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment before being taken into custody.
The Lagos State Police Command has launched a thorough investigation to uncover more details about the incident, seeking justice for the young victim.
