Military Personnel Arrested For Cybercrime In Lagos

Serving military personnel in the state of Lagos, Lance Corporal Ajayi Kayode has been arrested for suspected Internet theft.

Kayode was detained by officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in the Lekki region of the state.

The soldier, who was arrested along with 26 others, said when nabbed he was still learning "yahoo yahoo" (Internet fraud) from his colleagues.

He admitted that he had been told by his parents, who were teaching him, that cybercrime was the easiest way to make fast money hence his involvement.

Mr. Dele Oyewale, the spokesperson for the EFCC, announced Kayode 's arrest in a statement on Monday.

He said Kayode was arrested on Saturday after collecting information from concerned members of the public about his suspected involvement in illegal activities with the service number NAF18/34732.

The statement reads,

"Kayode, the lance corporal, was arrested alongside Kalu Emmanuel;  Hassan Sunday; Odinaka David Okem; Victor Ochiabuito; Christopher Prince; Victor Ologhu; Alex Aka;  Miracle Onyekwere;  Habeeb Ayomide;  Olakunle Ajeigbu, Rasheed Olanrewaju, and Salam Hakeem.

"Others are Adeniran Nurudeen;  Opeyemi Ojo Chris;  Derrick Moris;  Shehu Oluoti;  Fuad Akinbayo;  Babatunde Idowu; Uzo Igwe Nathaniel;  Debowale Adedoyin;  Shegun Emmanuel;  Godswill Maduchem; Samson Kazeem; Oluwatobi Oluwatoba, Olaitan Ajao, and Oyindamola Kareem."

The anti-graft body said the individuals detained were part of an orchestrated network of cyber-criminal syndicates.

This added that objects seized from members of the gang include diamond rings, luxury cars, and tablets, adding that they will be charged to court early.
