The appointment of a new supreme monarch for the Mbula Kingdom in the Demsa Local Government Area has been accepted by Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

Bwaltam Bentley Biyapo is the new Murum Mbula.

Murum Joram Joel Fwa, who ruled for 26 years and died on May 17, 2021, is succeeded by Bwaltam Biyapo.

Biyapo, 46, worked for the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) until his appointment as the new Murum Mbula. He progressed through the ranks to become Route Commander.

Biyapo was one of four front runners in the selection process from the Muzong Clan of the Mbula Traditional Council, according to a statement from Governor Fintiri's Press Secretary, Mr Humwashi Wonosikou.

“On behalf of the Adamawa State Government, I congratulate you on your appointment and wish you a successful and peaceful reign as Murum Mbula,” Fintiri said.

Bwaltam Bentley Biyapo was born on September 17, 1975, and holds a Master's degree in Agriculture and Rural Sociology from the Modibbo Adama University in Yola.

The Murum Mbula can only be chosen from two governing clans in the Mbula Kingdom, namely Fwa and Muzong, and both clans had been in fierce competition to create the next king.

The Fwa ruling house has produced more kings than the Muzong clan, and Muzong youths had wanted rotation to ensure that they would be able to produce the king this time.

As of press time, no details on how the new king emerged from Muxong had been disclosed.
