Mubi Market Generates N29bn Annually, Supplies 29M Animals
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has highlighted the economic significance of the Mubi livestock market, revealing it generates an impressive N29 billion annually while supplying 29 million animals to Lagos State.
The governor shared this during a meeting in Yola with Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, the Minister of Livestock Development, praising the market’s pivotal role in the state’s economy and Nigeria’s livestock industry.
“The Mubi livestock market is a major economic hub, not just for Adamawa State but for the entire country. Annually, it supplies 29 million animals to Lagos, generating N29 billion in revenue,” Governor Fintiri stated.
Governor Fintiri raised concerns about challenges faced by livestock traders, particularly roadblocks and extortion along highways. He called on the federal government to address these issues to sustain and enhance the sector’s contributions to the national economy.
“These obstacles, including extortion of cattle traders on highways, need to be removed to sustain and enhance the sector’s contribution to the economy,” he urged.
The governor lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for creating the Ministry of Livestock Development and appointing Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha as minister, expressing optimism about the ministry’s potential to revitalise the sector.
“Creating a dedicated Ministry of Livestock Development is a step in the right direction. With Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha’s leadership, I believe the sector will reach new heights,” Governor Fintiri added.
Responding to the governor’s remarks, Minister Maiha praised Adamawa State for its dedication to boosting the livestock industry, particularly with the construction of a northern international cattle market in Mubi.
“Adamawa State is blessed with rich animal resources and over 33 grazing reserves. The governor’s vision to establish a world-class cattle market in Mubi is commendable and will position the state as a leader in livestock trade,” the minister said.
The collaboration between state and federal authorities is expected to unlock the livestock sector’s full potential, further solidifying Adamawa’s role as a key player in Nigeria’s agricultural economy.
