Mum Kills 3 Daughters, 7-Year-Old Fights to Live
A small Wyoming town is reeling after a devastating incident where a mother shot her four daughters, leaving three dead and one struggling to survive. The shooter, identified as 32-year-old Tranyelle Harshman, later took her own life.
The shooting took place on Monday, February 10, inside the family’s home in Byron, Wyoming. Authorities say Harshman fired at her children—two 2-year-olds, a 7-year-old, and a 9-year-old—before turning the gun on herself.
A chilling 911 call from Harshman detailed the horrific crime. She told dispatchers that her daughters had been shot and that she believed they were dead. She also stated her intent to end her own life.
“The dispatcher pleaded with the female caller over the phone for the female caller to remain on the line until responding units arrived,” the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Harshman, however, repeatedly told the dispatcher she couldn’t stay on the call. Moments later, the line went dead.
By the time law enforcement arrived, three of the children had already died. Harshman and her 7-year-old daughter, Olivia, were still alive and were rushed to the hospital.
Doctors pronounced Harshman dead shortly after arrival. Olivia was airlifted to a hospital in Billings, Montana, and later transferred to Salt Lake City for specialized neurological care.
A GoFundMe page set up for the family described Olivia’s condition as critical, with severe traumatic brain injuries.
“Olivia has suffered severe traumatic brain injury and is fighting hard for her life!” the fundraising page states. “The next few days will be crucial for her outcome. If she pulls through, the road ahead will be long and uncertain.”
The Independent also identified the victims. The oldest was named Brailey, while the two youngest were half-sisters.
Their father, Quinn Blackmer, and his wife, Katelynn, are left grieving the unimaginable loss. The couple also has a one-year-old son.
Byron’s Mayor, Allen Clark, spoke about the impact on the small community.
“When you’re in a small town like this, everyone rubs shoulders with everyone,” Clark said. “It’s just devastating. I hope and pray the family can endure and find brighter days ahead.”
As of Wednesday, February 12, the GoFundMe page for the Blackmers had raised over $42,000.
The tragedy echoes a similar case from Massachusetts last year, where a mother allegedly strangled her three children before attempting to take her own life.
