Renowned Nigerian journalist Dr. Ngozi Fidelia Anyaegbunam has passed away at the age of 67 following a brief illness. A statement released by her son, Rocky C. Agbese, paid tribute to her remarkable career and life, describing her as a pioneering figure in Nigerian journalism.
Dr. Anyaegbunam’s career included influential editorial roles at Champion Newspaper, where she became the first female editor and The Daily Times. She also authored the book Waziri Ibrahim: Politics Without Bitterness, adding to her legacy as a chronicler of Nigerian politics. Born in October 1957 in Damaturu, Yobe State, to George and Victoria Anyaegbunam, she went on to become a media management consultant for numerous prominent companies.
Known for breaking barriers, Dr. Anyaegbunam was one of the few female print journalists to interview two Nigerian Presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo and Muhammadu Buhari, during their tenures. The family described her as a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend whose “larger-than-life presence” will be dearly missed.
